How refreshing it is to see a new Gawker website that finally
owes up to the fact that when you come right down to it, they are
nothing more than gossip whores, no better than the National
Enquirer or any of the other rags you find in the supermarket
checkout asle.
Sploid.com's editors do one
thing: Take stories from various news outlets, carefully read the
first sentence, then re-write the headline in ALL CAPS 84 POINT
FONT (I actually looked at the CSS, it really is 84pt).
Ocassionally, if the story isn't as important, they'll drop down to
the far less headache-inducing 48 POINT FONT. And that's it. That's
all they do. Sploid.com's motto should be "Like Google News For
Morons".
Here's the thing: If the average American schmoe wouldn't be seen
buying a copy of the National Enquirer in a million years, why are
we ok with reading our gossip in an online blog?
